About

Climate Strategy Partners is chaired by Tim Yeo. Tim has been a strong advocate of faster action to address the challenge of climate change for the last three decades. His experience and contacts span both government and industry in Britain and many other countries.

Tim was a Minister of State at the Department of the Environment dealing with climate change and energy efficiency in Prime Minister John Major’s government. After the Conservative Party went into opposition in 1997 he was a member of the Shadow Cabinet responsible successively for agriculture, energy, trade, industry, environment and transport policy.

After leaving the Shadow Cabinet in 2005 Tim chaired the House of Commons Environmental Audit Select Committee from 2005 to 2010. He was elected Chair of the House of Commons Energy and Climate Change Select Committee in 2010 and held this post until retiring from Parliament in 2015.

Tim was chair of several listed and unlisted companies in the energy industry including AFC Energy plc, the leading provider of alkaline fuel cell systems, from 2007 to 2017.

Tim was a non-executive director Getlink SE (formerly called Groupe Eurotunnel SA), operator of the Channel Tunnel, from 2007 to 2021 where he chaired the board’s Strategy and Sustainable Development Committee. The Channel Tunnel is the most sustainable transport link for freight and passengers between Britain and Continental Europe. Its carbon footprint is a small fraction of that of its competitors.

Tim is Chair of ElecLink Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Getlink SE. ElecLink completed construction of a 1 GW electricity interconnector between Britain and France in October 2021. This interconnector represents one third of the interconnection capacity between the two countries. After extensive testing the first commercial power flows between Britain and France started in May 2022.

Tim has been Honorary UK Ambassador of Foreign Investment Promotion for South Korea since 2016 and works closely KOTRA, the South Korean Trade-Investment Promotion Agency.

Tim has also been Chair of the New Nuclear Watch Institute since 2015, a London based think tank which promotes wider recognition of the role of nuclear energy as part of the global solution to the challenge of climate change.
